About

Megan Chin (she/they) is a mixed-race Chinese American visual artist born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. Being brought up in the everglades instilled a love for the natural world while their love of art has also drawn them to cities. In 2010, they earned a BFA in Painting with a focus on gender studies from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland. Chin spent the following 8 years in New York City, where they established their studio practice. Searching for more balance between art and the outdoors brought them to the west coast. First ending up in the Bay Area, in 2020, they exhibited work at de Young Museum in San Francisco. Then in 2022, they set roots in Portland, Oregon striking a balance between art, culture and access to lush ecosystems that inspire their work.

Expanding their art practice to create alongside other artists they've been an artist-in-residence at the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology, Stelo Arts + Camp Colton, the Macedonia Institute, Vermont Studio Center, the Verdancy Project and will be a resident at Caldera next spring. They've also received a Art3C grant and Arts Project Grant from Regional Arts and Culture Council as well as the Precipice Fund to support organizing an Anticapitalist Artists book club (AABC) in Portland, OR.
